RAGBRAI is a huge bike ride all the way across the state, it's a super big deal here in Iowa put on by the Des Moines Register! Lance Armstrong is even riding this year! They have a different route every time and this year it came right through our town! http://ragbrai.com/ There are 8,500 riders for the week but lots more just ride for one day or just through a few towns.
If I could ride a bike more than a couple yards or was just the tiniest bit athletic, I would totally do this!! hehe!! It would be so fun to visit all the small towns and see the country side...of course I would have to stop every five minutes to take pics...we have so many cool old barns here!
The Farmer took Merritt down the dirt road by our farm to see all the bikers pass. The whole town was decorated with bikes and other fun bike related things! There were food vendors and singing this morning, so our church service started late, which threw us all off and we were almost late for church at 11:15!!
When I lived down in Indianola, the route was scheduled to stay there overnight, so there was a huge party in town, of course everyone had to fill me in because this Mississippi girl had no clue what RAGBRAI even was :) Some people travel in teams and have big buses that go along with them and they all have fun themes and colors, I was working for a graphic design company then, so we got to design jerseys and logos, there was even a contest to design the logo for the Indianola event shirts and signage that my friend Erin won!
Here are some pics of Merritt watching all the bikes!!
